Encounters

Today a young woman stopped by St Joseph’s — one I’ve mentioned before, however briefly. She was one of the patients in the hospital ward which was infested with a demon.

I could not see any sign of possession, and she crossed herself using holy water, so at least that is one weight off of my mind. However she seemed troubled, and from what I gather she has the sight: she is sensitive to the spiritual realm. Perhaps it is because she could sense the demon in the hospital that it did not attack her.

She was even conscious of the guardian spirits in Highgate Cemetery, which alas I cannot sense but have heard of through other members of the Praetergarda. I gave her a business card. It is my hope that she contacts me again, for skills like hers could be useful in fighting evil.

I have seen the other boy — Robin — several times now. He has fully recovered from his possession, but has now gained some sensitivity to the spiritual realm. Unfortunately he seems to view it as a great adventure, and insists on accompanying me on investigations. Having another pair of helping hands has proved useful, however, and he has assisted me in banishing several ghosts.

There has been an increased amount of spiritus activity in the area, as if they are being drawn here. I cannot but wonder what darkness is calling to them.

How to Protect Yourself from Demons

This website has a solid overview of demonic attacks and how to safeguard yourself against them. It also nicely summarizes the differences between demonic oppression, obsession, and possession, and discusses infestations.

I am surprised the article did not mention the beneficial powers of sea salt, however. Perhaps an unorthodox protection, but sometimes more convenient than Holy Water.

All Quiet

Still no signs of the hospital demon. I feel helpless — I did not manage to identify nor classify it, and am not even sure I expelled it from the land of the living. I am praying for strength and guidance.

One of the hospital victims came to visit me today. He seemed troubled (after-effects of the possession?). I have told him he can speak with me whenever he feels the need, even if he is — in his own words — a devout atheist.

I slipped holy water into his tea and he did not notice, so at least I am sure all demonic traces have left him. Perhaps I should follow up on the other victims to make sure….

In other news, tomorrow the council is meeting to discuss demonic activity in London. I will report back our conclusions to you.

Disappeared

I do not understand. The demonic presence which was afflicting a particular ward in Whittington Hospital has vanished without a trace. It leaves me uneasy — the last two times I cast that demon out of a victim, it managed to remain within the hospital grounds, ready to hunt for a new body to possess. And yet since the possession and successful exorcism of the third boy, Robin, there has been no new activity.

Where has it gone? Some of the ancient texts refer to the power of the number 3. Perhaps, by having exorcised that demon three times, it no longer has the power to walk amongst the living.

But there is another alternative — the demon may have successfully possessed someone. It seems unlikely, though: there were no “seizures” of any sort, and I made sure to test each patient in the ward by touching them with a cross.

Perhaps it is simply lying in wait for a better victim. I shall continue my rounds at the hospital for now, just to be sure.

The third boy

He is recovering, now. His name is Robin. He is the third victim of the hospital demon, and the possession was exactly the same as before: some kind of nocturnal attack, leading to possession. While the mind and body are half-asleep, the possession goes unnoticed — it is in the morning when the victim begins to wake up properly that the fight begins.

They’re calling it seizures, the nurses. They have no other frame of reference. They think it passes with time. I have been very careful not to expose the truth, to perform silent exorcisms when the victims are alone. The other two victims have already been released from the hospital, all clear. This boy will soon be released, too. I have taken down their names and details — it is likely that they will have the sight from now on, with their souls so tainted.

What frustrates me is I am in no way closer to identifying the demon in question, and therefore to determine how best to send it back to Hell. I have not been able to sneak into the ward at night time, but the demon knows no borders — he walks where he pleases, while the forces of Good are held in check.

I tried to hide a cross under the bed of one of the other patients in the ward, a girl. She’s the closest to the door, now that Robin has been taken elsewhere. It is likely that tonight the demon will come to possess her. I thought the cross would help, but I had no time to hide it.

I will have to stop by tomorrow. I fear the worst.

Introduction

Ever since that Class 3 demon burned all my notebooks I have been considering how best to keep a record of my experiences and avoid losing all of my research. Some of my congregation mentioned using a blog, so here I am.

My name is Father John and I have been a member of the Prætergarda in London for over fifteen years. In that time, I have come across a frightening array of demons — or what I thought was a frightening array.

But I have come to realize that, even with all my experience, the majority of demons I’ve faced have been only Class 1. But something is stirring in northern London, lately. Increasingly we’re receiving reports of stronger demonic activity. What has brought it about? I cannot say, but we must prepare ourselves.
